what's your next most important task?

Craft Intent Help

Everything you need to get the most out of Craft Intent.

Getting Started

What is Craft Intent?

Craft Intent is a focused productivity tool that keeps your todos, projects, and notes in one simple place. It's built on a philosophy that meaningful work requires clarity and organization. No distractions, no complexity—just what you need to get things done.

Your First Todo

Getting started is simple:

  1. Open the Todos section by clicking the "todos" header
  2. Click on the empty area where your first todo will appear
  3. Type what you need to do
  4. Press Enter to create another todo below
  5. Click the - dash to mark it complete

Understanding the Layout

Your workspace has three main areas:

  • Todos — Your daily action items at the top
  • Projects Dashboard — Quick-view status updates for ongoing work
  • Notes & Custom Sections — Everything else: ideas, references, lists

The Philosophy

Keep a complete, written record of everything you might do. Then identify the next most important task, and do it. That's Craft Intent.

Staying Focused

Here's how to use Craft Intent to stay on track:

  1. Scan your Projects Dashboard to see where things stand
  2. Identify the single most important thing you should work on right now
  3. Drag that item to the top of your list
  4. Focus on it until it's done, then repeat

The goal isn't to do everything—it's to always be doing the right thing.

Todos

Creating Todos

Just start typing where you see the empty todo area. Press Enter to create a new todo below the current one. Your cursor moves automatically to the new item so you can keep typing.

Checking Off Todos

Click the - dash at the left of any todo to mark it complete. Completed items move below a divider line so your active list stays clean.

Deleting Todos

There are two ways to delete a todo:

  • Clear its text and press Backspace
  • Check it off with the - dash, then click the X that appears

Organizing with Drag and Drop

Grab any todo by clicking and holding, then drag it to a new position. A gold line shows where it will land. Release to drop it in place.

Indentation

Create sub-tasks by pressing Tab to indent a todo. Press Shift + Tab to outdent. This helps you organize related tasks together visually.

Indentation is purely visual—checking off a parent item doesn't affect its children.

Hiding Todos for Later

Click the "hide" divider bar to tuck away todos you're not working on right now. They're still there—just out of sight so you can focus on what matters. Click again to show them when you're ready.

Projects Dashboard

Adding Projects

Click the + button in the Projects Dashboard. Type your project name, then add a status update. This creates a quick at-a-glance view of where things stand.

Quick Status Updates

Each project shows: Project Name | Current Status

Click on the status text to update it anytime. Your previous statuses are saved automatically in the history.

Active vs Completed

Drag projects above or below the "completed" divider to mark their status. Active projects appear at the top, finished ones below. The system automatically logs when you move projects across this line.

Status History Tracking

Every time you update a project's status, Craft Intent saves it with a timestamp. This creates a timeline of how your project evolved over time. To view your complete status history, download the project from its menu—the downloaded file includes all your status updates.

Drag to Reorder

Like todos, projects can be dragged and dropped. Grab the left edge and drag to reorder your priorities.

Notes & Custom Sections

Creating Sections

Open Settings (hamburger menu) and click "+ New Section". Give it a name and it appears in your workspace. Use sections for anything: Meeting Notes, Book Ideas, Shopping Lists—whatever helps you stay organized.

Renaming Sections

In Settings under "Manage Sections", click the section name to edit it. Press Enter or click away to save.

Adding Notes

Click the + button in any section to add a new item. Notes have a title and an expandable content area for longer text.

Unlike todos, notes and projects are created using the "+" button—not the Enter key.

Moving Items Between Sections

You can drag and drop notes between different sections. Grab an item and drag it into another section to move it there.

Collapse & Expand

Click the section header (e.g., "notes") to toggle it open or closed. When focused on an item, press Alt + C to toggle collapse.

Deleting Sections

In Settings under "Manage Sections", use the delete button to remove a section.

Deleting a section also deletes all items inside it. This cannot be undone.

Sync & Security

Offline-First Design

Craft Intent works without an internet connection. Your data is stored locally on your device first. Changes sync to the cloud automatically when you're back online.

Automatic Cross-Device Sync

Sign in on any device and your data syncs automatically. Changes appear in real-time across all your logged-in sessions.

End-to-End Encryption

Your data is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches our servers. We cannot read your todos, notes, or projects. Only you have the key—it's derived from your password.

Your Data Privacy

  • Your data is encrypted with a key only you possess
  • No analytics tracking inside the app
  • No third-party access to your data
  • Your information stays private

Export & Printing

Downloading Individual Items

Click the three-dot menu on any note or project to download it. For projects, the download includes your complete status history with timestamps.

Download Everything

In Settings, click "Print / Save as PDF". This opens a formatted, print-optimized view of your entire workspace. Use your browser's print dialog to save as PDF or send to a printer.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Where is my data stored?"

Your data lives in two places: locally on your device (encrypted) and synced to our secure server (also encrypted). Only you can decrypt it with your password.

"Can I use this offline?"

Yes! Craft Intent is offline-first. Work without internet and your changes sync automatically when you reconnect.

"How do I indent on mobile?"

Long-press any item to reveal the arrow menu. Tap the left or right arrows to change indentation.

"Why no frameworks?"

Craft Intent is built with vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. No React, no Bootstrap. This keeps it fast, lightweight, and fully understandable. We believe frameworks sacrifice clarity for speed.
